Join me for an in-person three day version of my Hollow Forms in Silver workshop in Diane Weimer's lovely, well-appointed studio just outside of LA.
Hollow form jewelry encourages artists to craft more architectural, larger work without the weight that can limit the wearability of a solid metal design. From lentils and other bead forms, to clasps, hollow rings, and pendants, these structural objects add a dimensionality to your work unlike any other.
In this three-day in-person workshop, we’ll demonstrate and built an array of both simple and complex forms, ranging from beads to rings and pendants, optionally adding decorative and functional elements such as inset stones, surface treatments, and multi-form connectors.
The class will emphasize structural construction, functional and creative design, and technical fabrication skill building, and is a great stepping stone to subsequent study of metal box construction or structural clasps.
The minimum recommended skill set for this workshop is that a student be comfortable sawing, filing, and making walled cabochon bezels. Rachel will provide project variations that allow both early-stage metalsmiths and more advanced students to feel challenged.
