When: Saturday, October 12, 2026 – 9 am – 4 pm Pacific (includes 1 hour lunch break)

GENERAL INFO: The Totally Tubular series of three one-day workshops teaches three tubing-based clasps (Spring-Loaded Telescoping Clasp, Hinged Bracelet Clasp, and a Bayonet Clasp with internal mechanism), each of which use distinctly different mechanics for closure. All three are technically “fiddly” with a fair amount of precision measuring, sawing, and filing to complete – I’ve scheduled in order from most forgiving of imprecision to least so you refine your skills as you progress through them.

DAY THREE: Bayonet Clasp (Internal Twist) - Intermediate

Bayonet clasp can mean so many different things in the industry, but most of them have a twisting lock feature. Sometimes it’s a key-like shape, other times it’s a rod. In this version, our “key” sits inside the larger tube and slots down invisibly into an interior lock. We’ll go over making a helpful mark-up tool to make the precision measuring a little easier, and we’ll include a pair of delicate safety hasps on the exterior to add to its security. Especially good for delicate necklaces and chains, it can be blinged up a bit if you decide to make your own patterned exterior tubing once you get the basics down.

This project will help you focus on small details and the importance of spatial relationships of moving parts. While the meat of the clasp is fairly straightforward, it’s the last few steps that will teach you patience!
