Toggle clasps may be one of the oldest, most often used mechanisms in the jewelry world, but they aren’t always the most secure, and sometimes they just aren’t substantial enough for a custom piece you’ve put hours into.
In this two-session workshop we add dimension and scale by nesting our toggle inside a hollow form, providing increased security, depth, and an architectural element that the more traditional wire toggles don’t have. The design also allows for adding safety catches that bridge the toggle, for further security.
No hollow form experience? No problem. If you can make bezel settings and have patience for sawing and filing with care, you can make them – after all, a hollow form is just a bezel with a hat!
