Big, bold jewelry doesn’t have to mean heavy jewelry.

In this fast-paced, three-day hands-on workshop, you’ll learn to design and construct architectural hollow form jewelry on a statement-making scale – creating pieces that are bold, dimensional, and unapologetically eye-catching without the weight of solid metal.

Starting with the fundamentals of hollow form construction, you’ll move from simple geometric forms to more complex structures, including concave, convex, and pillow forms. Along the way, we’ll explore design considerations for working large-scale, techniques for connecting multiple forms while maintaining movement and fluidity, and strategies for keeping substantial pieces lightweight and wearable.

You’ll pattern, plan, model, and begin constructing your own statement necklace, guided by your personal artistic voice. Incorporate gemstones, mixed metals, found objects, or other elements that make the design uniquely yours. An optional integrated hollow form nesting toggle clasp can become part of the necklace – or you can save the clasp for a future design.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a strong foundation in hollow form construction, a completed clasp, and one or more constructed elements of a larger necklace. You’ll also leave with a solid design, model, and construction plan to carry the project forward in your own studio.

Think big. Build light. Craft something unmistakably yours.

NOTE: Students who want a head start on designing are strongly encouraged to take the pre-session mini-workshop “Opening Up the Design Mind: Creative Brainstorming”

Skills Required: Advanced beginner or above - solid skills creating bezels, using the torch, sawing and filing.
